Journalist Elena Egorova talks about some secrets of herbal medicine with a pharmacist, a hereditary herbalist, a member of the Society of Phytotherapists of St. Petersburg, the author of the books "I know about herbs ..." and "Hemlock - a healer of oncological and other diseases" Lidia Nikolaevna Dyakonova.
How long should herbal treatment take? What mistakes do people make more often in herbal medicine: do they drink the grass they need for too short a period of time, or, conversely, for too long?
L. D. More often, people take medicinal herbs for a shorter period of time than they should: they feel better and stop drinking the herb. However, chronic diseases such as diseases of the joints, tumors are treated for a long time. For example, tumor diseases of the thyroid gland, mastopathy, fibroma should be treated with herbs from several months to a year, or rather, until a complete cure.
In the case of cancer, after surgical removal of the tumor, medicinal herbs should be drunk for 5 years so that there is no recurrence, and it is advisable to alternate antitumor herbs. Among the best plants that prevent cancer recurrence is the Siberian prince - these properties have long been valued in Tibetan medicine. It is advisable to use it to prevent relapses and hemlock, which kills tumor cells - and after all, all tumor cells cannot be removed from the body with a knife. Hemlock is taken 1 time per day, in the morning 1 hour before meals according to the scheme from 1 drop to 40 drops (on the first day they take 1 drop, on the second - 2 drops, on the third - 3, etc.) and back from 40 to 1 drop. After such an 80-day course of treatment with hemlock, a week-long break is taken. During this period, herbs are used that cleanse the body of intoxication. In Siberia, for these purposes, the kopeck forest is most often used. Where lespedeza is rare, burdock root or wormwood herb can be used. I often prescribe a collection of six herbs for cleansing from intoxication: wormwood, immortelle, yarrow, dill, St. John's wort and birch leaf. 1 teaspoon of finely ground collection should be poured with a glass of boiling water, insist, strain and drink, without sweetening, during the day.
Another thing is the intake of herbs containing cardiac glycosides, which include such a sensational plant as hellebore. There are even cases of hellebore poisoning due to ignorance of the people who used it, the characteristics of this plant and the rules for its use. The general rule for using poisonous plants is to start with very small doses. So, finely ground hellebore root powder is first taken in an amount of 5 mg (which in appearance corresponds to the size of a small match head) once a day, in the morning on an empty stomach, with a glass of water.
After a three-week intake of hellebore, you need to take a week break. At the same time, in parallel with hellebore, as well as during weekly breaks in its intake, it is necessary to drink diuretic herbs, such as rose hips (possible in the form of compote), birch leaf, currant or lingonberry. In addition, it has long been noted that hellebore is most effective in the cold transitional season - in autumn and spring. The dose of hellebore can be increased by a third in about three weeks.
Digitalis, spring adonis, jaundice also contain cardiac glycosides, so after every three weeks of taking any of these herbs, a week break is taken, during which they drink diuretic herbs.
Lidia Nikolaevna, you said that diseases of the joints are also treated with herbs for a long time. How long and with what herbs?
L. D. Avicenna wrote that joints should be treated for four seasons, that is, a year, but usually it takes even two years to treat them.
In diseases of the joints, herbs with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects are used that affect the skeletal system, as well as herbs that activate the work of the kidneys, bladder and have a diuretic effect, because the infection needs to be washed out of the body. These herbs include lingonberry leaf, high elecampane, heather, knotweed, birch leaf, meadow geranium, marsh cinquefoil, horsetail.
Some medicinal plants, having a slight diuretic effect, help to remove salts that are unnecessary for the body, which are deposited in the joints. For these purposes, along with the already mentioned birch leaf, lingonberry leaf and knotweed, you can also use blackcurrant leaf, pharmacy asparagus, goldenrod, burdock root, rosehip root, common cocklebur.
Preparations from herbs and fees with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action are not only taken orally, but also rubbed with them on the joints.
It should be noted that in the treatment of tumor diseases, they also combine the internal intake of herbs with the external use of the same herbs, for example, in fibromyomas, bandages soaked in a medicinal infusion are made on the stomach.
How should herbal intake be related to food intake?
L. D. Herbs for the treatment of the liver and gallbladder should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals, and with a diseased liver, herbs are best taken in the form of infusions and decoctions, rather than alcohol tinctures.
If you are treating a sick stomach or intestines, then take the herb you need 30 minutes before eating.
In kidney herbal medicine, the appropriate herbs are taken an hour and a half before a meal or an hour after a meal - after all, the kidneys must, on the one hand, be washed, and on the other hand, the medicinal substances of the herbs should not be washed.
For the treatment of cancer, poisonous plants are used (celandine, periwinkle, mistletoe, etc.). Poisonous plants, as a rule, are taken once a day, in the morning an hour before meals and washed down with plenty of water (at least 100 ml).
Do I need to take breaks from taking herbs that are not poisonous?
L. D. Need. The fact is that if you take any herb or herbal collection for a long time, without taking breaks in taking it, then the body gets used to the phytotherapeutic effect, and as a result, the therapeutic effect is significantly reduced.
Some herbs require particularly skillful application. For example, wormwood cannot be used for a long time - this herb is taken no more than a week a month. The fact is that its long-term use is harmful to the stomach and to the brain (it dries out the brain, as Avicenna wrote). Tansy, a bitter and rather toxic herb, is also not recommended to be taken for more than a week a month.
Some herbs are abortifacient and therefore contraindicated during pregnancy. These herbs include oregano, burnet, gentian, tansy.
What general rules for combining herbs with each other should be followed?
L. D. Herbs that have a calming and tonic effect do not combine with each other, so they are not consumed in one go. The former include valerian, motherwort, evasive peony, blue cyanosis, mint, lemon balm, hop cones. To the second - eleutherococcus, Manchurian aralia, lemongrass, high lure, Rhodiola rosea, ginseng. However, you can take a tonic herb in the morning, and a calming herb in the evening of the same day.
Diuretic and laxative herbs are not taken at the same time, as they weaken the effect of each other. Laxative herbs (zhoster, hay, buckthorn) should not be used every day. If you suffer from constipation, take laxative herbs every other day, preferably at night.
When taking such a strong remedy as hemlock, even the food consumed by the patient is important. Immediately after taking hemlock, it is not recommended to consume tea, coffee, milk and lactic acid products, as well as acidic foods such as grapefruit, lemons, oranges, sour apples, sauerkraut and dishes seasoned with vinegar. But within a few hours after taking the hemlock (say, at lunch), these products can be consumed. Smoking and alcohol also reduce the effect of hemlock.
Some herbs do not combine with hemlock: at the same time, wormwood, ferula, celandine, periwinkle should not be taken with it.
Probably, it is important not only to choose the right medicinal herb, but also to prepare medicine from it correctly?
L. D. Oh sure. Although I want to emphasize that a good recipe is not for everyone. The fact is that each person has his own characteristics, his own health problems, and herbs can also have a side effect. For example, galangal and St. John's wort fix, St. John's wort increases pressure - all this must be taken into account.
Now about the preparation of medicines from herbs. The roots and bark of medicinal plants are usually boiled. So, they boil the root of calamus, the roots of galangal and wild rose, the bark of oak, so that they give their healing substances into the solution. In addition, a decoction of oak bark, rich in tannins, does not need to be infused for more than 20 minutes - it is filtered while still warm.
Contrary to the general rule, the roots of plants such as burdock and marshmallow do not need to be boiled, although people often try to do so. The fact is that the active principles of these medicinal roots containing mucus dissolve in water precisely at room temperature.
Some herbs should not be boiled because their active ingredients are destroyed by boiling. These herbs include European dodder. And when the meadowsweet is boiled, an unpleasant pharmacy smell appears, so the cold method of infusion of plant materials is also appropriate for this plant. Pour the meadowsweet with water at room temperature overnight, and strain in the morning.
And one more piece of advice. Since essential oils are quickly destroyed in solution, plants rich in essential oils are infused for no more than 10-15 minutes, filtered and used immediately. Such herbs include wild rosemary, mint, lemon balm, chamomile, sage, buds and pine needles. These plants, rich in essential oils, are useful for inhalation for colds.

The Russian people, as well as the British and some other nationalities, cannot imagine their life without tasty, fragrant tea with a velvety aftertaste. That's just the residents "Foggy Albion", that is the UK, drink tea at 5 pm. Russian people are so fond of this invigorating drink that these residents drink several cups of tea a day. This is especially true for representatives of creative professions and freelancers. And the question becomes more and more "what herbs can be brewed and drunk instead of tea".

Since tea lovers understand the harmful effects of tea on tooth enamel and nerves, they are looking for an alternative. What herbs can be brewed and drunk instead of tea? In ancient times in Russia, the people brewed all kinds of plants that have a very beneficial effect on the body - they strengthen and heal it. Among the herbs popular at that time, you can find fireweed, thyme, Ivan tea and many others. But the variety doesn't end there. More and more often, not only herbs are added to teas, but also spices, dried fruits and berries. Some herbal drinks still have contraindications.

Sometimes even herbs can have a harmful effect on the body. The fact is that the composition of herbal tea usually includes a wide variety of plants that have one or another therapeutic effect. Some raise the pressure, others lower it. The same is true with potency. Some herbal drinks can adversely affect health, so you should familiarize yourself with the contraindications in advance.
- If a young couple drinks mint tea in excessive quantities, this may affect the conception of an unborn child. It is especially not recommended to drink a lot of mint tea for the stronger sex.

Dangerous combinations of medicinal herbs
Doctors usually prescribe pills for us, but we take herbs on our own, without consulting specialists, thinking that they cannot harm our health. Therefore, we need to know the dangerous combinations of herbs and various drugs.
Phytotherapy is not harmful
Today, a variety of dietary supplements based on medicinal herbs are becoming increasingly popular. You can buy them without a doctor's prescription, and many of us prescribe them on our own, believing that these are not "chemistry", but just "weeds". However, the active substances in those and others do not fundamentally differ from each other. Being in the composition of preparations obtained by an industrial method, and roots and herbs, such substances are powerful weapons. Sometimes they can be dangerous combinations that can lead to the most unforeseen reactions.
For example, an elderly person decides to start taking ginkgo biloba extract to prevent memory impairment. At the same time, the doctor, who is not aware of this, prescribes acetylsalicylic acid for heart problems. If the patient takes both of these drugs consistently, after a few months such experiments may end in a stroke ...
To avoid this, you need to know and follow a few simple rules:
Tell your doctor about all the supplements and herbs you are taking, as almost all of them have side effects of one kind or another.
Be safe and consult with a phytotherapeutist. These specialists know more about the properties of medicinal herbs than ordinary doctors.
Drink herbs and preparations separately, at different times of the day, so that dangerous combinations of them that can be harmful to health do not form.
We accept without mixing!
Echinacea. This plant has antiviral and antibacterial properties and is used to prevent and treat influenza and SARS, as well as to improve immune defenses. Echinacea should not be taken with antifungal medications as the combination is toxic to the liver. In addition, this herb should not be combined with drugs that suppress the immune system, it is also contraindicated in people with autoimmune diseases, tuberculosis and AIDS.
Valerian root. As you know, this remedy is widely used to overcome mild forms of anxiety and to improve sleep. Valerian root preparations should not be mixed with other anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications as their effects are cumulative and may lead to unpredictable results. In addition, it is not recommended to combine valerian root and other soothing herbs and antihistamines.
Ginkgo biloba. This ancient Chinese plant helps to improve blood circulation and blood supply to the brain, and also improves memory and attention. Ginkgo should not be combined with anticoagulants, that is, substances that thin the blood. Such dangerous combinations are fraught with excessive blood thinning, bleeding and hemorrhage. It is undesirable to use these medicinal herbs and with MAO inhibitor drugs to get rid of depression.
St. John's wort. If in our country this plant is used to treat a variety of diseases, then in Western countries it is known primarily as a remedy for nervous tension and depression, which is part of sedatives. St. John's wort should not be taken with some antibiotics that cause photosensitivity, as this aggravates the effect. In addition, St. John's wort should not be drunk by people taking antidepressants. These drugs affect the level of serotonin, and the summation of their action with a medicinal herb leads to unpredictable consequences. In addition, without consulting a doctor, you can not combine St. John's wort and anticonvulsants, as they are able to interact with each other. There is also evidence that this plant may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills and some asthma medications.
Ginseng. It is a popular herbal remedy used to improve tone. Since it thins the blood, you should not combine it with antidiabetic, antihypertensive and cardiac drugs. The combination of ginseng with MAO inhibitors sometimes leads to manic psychosis, and the combination with caffeine preparations and coffee can cause irritability.
Ephedra. This plant is used in the treatment of a wide variety of diseases - from asthma to the common cold. Its main active ingredient, called ephedrine, contains many cold remedies and weight loss drugs. Ephedra is not recommended for use with hyper- and antihypertensive drugs, as it can increase blood pressure and increase heart rate. In addition, this medicinal herb should not be drunk by people who take drugs to regulate blood sugar levels. Ephedra neutralizes their action. Its combination with MAO inhibitors is also dangerous, as it leads to an increase in blood pressure. You can not take the plant with some heart drugs to avoid arrhythmias.
Pyrethrum. This remedy is for migraine prevention. It should not be drunk before or after surgery, as this can cause severe bleeding.
Licorice. Often used for ARVI, colds, peptic ulcers, to relieve menopause. Licorice and its syrup should not be taken by those taking anti-diabetic drugs, as the plant may interfere with the action of the drugs. In addition, taking licorice leads to the depletion of calcium stores in the body and to cardiac arrhythmias, especially in people who drink certain cardiac drugs.

Thyme is not used for atherosclerosis and cardiosclerosis, for diseases of the cerebral vessels. Contraindications are also atrial fibrillation, stomach ulcers, kidney and liver diseases, pre-infarction condition, rehabilitation period after a heart attack. Immortelle is not recommended for hypertensive patients. Forest or field mint leads to reproductive dysfunction in men, it is not recommended to give it to children as a sedative.
Celandine is a plant that is considered more poisonous than useful. It can be dangerous roots, leaves, flowers and stems. Take it as a medicinal herb with extreme caution, observing the exact dosage. With prolonged use and improper dosage, vomiting, stool disorder, respiratory failure, dizziness appear. Ramson - is contraindicated in gastritis, with gastric ulcer. Licorice is contraindicated in high blood pressure, it leads to fluid retention in the body. In addition, it causes sexual dysfunction, weakens libido, slows down hair growth.
In general, and listed above, and any other types of medicinal herbs have their own contraindications for admission. When using them for treatment, you must follow the correct dosage and know the characteristics of your body so as not to cause even more harm to your health.
Exist contraindications to the use of herbal medicines.
When preparing any folk remedy for herbs for child, it is necessary to reduce the dosage depending on his age:
0 - 3 years - the dosage is reduced by 3-5 times;
3 - 7 years - the dosage is reduced by 2 times;

Summer has arrived, and with it, the season for harvesting medicinal herbs. in this article will talk about the basics of herbal medicine - how to drink medicinal herbs.
Phytotherapy is treatment with the help of medicinal plants. Even 2 centuries ago, it was the only way to treat, because there was simply no pharmaceuticals.
Modern pharmaceuticals successfully fight many previously incurable diseases, but they have a minus - they often cause complications and it often happens that a person does not need potent drugs, because they can be handled with simpler means. No wonder more and more people prefer to be treated with "herbs" rather than pills.
For thousands of years, medicinal plants have been the only remedy available to people. Which, in general, is not surprising, because we are children of nature and our food should be of plant and animal origin, and not anything synthetic. Throughout evolution, humans and plants have evolved together. Therefore, our ancestors were well versed in herbs and knew which medicinal plant would help against which ailment. It is also known to our smaller brothers.
In order to successfully use herbal medicine, you need to know not only, but the rules for taking medicinal plants. How is it right drink medicinal herbs
Rule number 1. Plants, as well as drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, have different strengths. Therefore, starting treatment, use the weakest phyto-collections and herbs. Only in case they do not help you, switch to stronger ones. For example, if you have a bowel disorder, start with chamomile and yarrow instead of belladonna, which is toxic and requires strict dosage.
Rule number 2. Use the plants themselves, not a pharmaceutical herbal preparation based on them. The fact is that during industrial processing, plants lose many of the beneficial properties that they possess in their raw form. Therefore, their action also changes.
Rule number 3. Do not get carried away with too complex medicinal preparations, which include more than 3-5 medicinal herbs. In one taken plant there is a composition of components balanced by nature itself. The more plants in a mixture, the more difficult it is to predict its outcome. However, treatment with fees is more effective than with a single plant. Here you need to choose the golden mean and use fees for treatment, which include 3-5 plants.
Rule number 4. You should not think that the effect of herbal medicine will come immediately. Too impatient natures, brewing herbs for a day or two, and not waiting for the first results, stop herbal treatment and switch to medication. However, in order to get the effect of the use of medicinal herbs, it takes 3-4 weeks to pass. Do not give up herbal medicine before the term that your doctor has prescribed for you.
In chronic diseases, medicinal preparations are drunk for a month, then you need to take a break for 5-10 days. Or they are treated according to this scheme: drink medicines for 2-3 months, and then take a break for 2 weeks or a month.
In any case, in order to avoid addiction, the fees should be alternated each for 10-15 days.
As a rule, with the treatment of medicinal fees, an improvement is observed after a few days. A lasting effect appears with a longer (at least 5-6 months) use of herbs.
If there is no positive result within 2-3 weeks, then the collection must be replaced with another one.
Rule number 5. Treatment with medicinal herbs is also a treatment, the result of which may be different. Therefore, before embarking on experiments, consult a good (licensed) herbalist or herbalist.
Rule number 6. When starting to use a new drug collection, you do not need to immediately take the entire dose as a whole. You can't know in advance how it will affect you. If this is an ointment based on medicinal herbs, then first apply a small amount of it to the area of \u200b\u200bthe wrist or elbow of the hand and see if there is a response - itching or redness.
If this is a decoction or infusion, then start with just a teaspoon - if no unfavorable symptoms have happened within the next hour, then you can take the entire dose as a whole.
Some medications can cause allergies. Therefore, you need to start with small fees, which include 2-3 plants and after 3-5 days add one component at a time to find out the allergen.
Carefully study the contraindications of each herb included in the collection. Everything must be taken into account: what kind of pressure do you have in life, is there a tendency to constipation, or vice versa, do you have a weak stool. It must be remembered that some plants should not be drunk during pregnancy, and some during
