The Nighthold is a new, third in a row, Legion raid, which became available on January 18, 2017 on European servers. In this article, we have made a short overview of the Nighthold how to get there, which will help you navigate.
The Night Citadel how to get there
Let's start off with How to get to the Nighthold. The entrance to the Nighthold is located in Suramar, next to the entrance to the Catacombs of Suramar - just turn right near the summoning stone (if you turned left, you would fall into the Catacombs).

Video how to get to the Night Citadel:
A little history of the Night Citadel
The Nighthold has been a very busy city, separated from the rest of Azeroth since the inhabitants decided to seal it off and thus protect themselves from the Burning Legion. The townspeople were sure that the rest of Azeroth was captured. In the events leading up to the expansion, Gul'dan gained control of the Nightwell, which fed all the Nightborne living nearby. The elves became so addicted to the magic of the Well that without this magical energy they weakened and withered.
In Patch 7.1, a new quest line, Uprising, was added that led players to capture the Nighthold.

The loot drop level increases as the raid progresses.

The Nighthold is the largest structure in the Broken Isles and one of the most majestic in all of Azeroth. This is a visible testament to the heights that the civilization of the nightborne has reached. This safe haven, away from the sorrows of the world, is built around the Nightwell, the source of arcane magic that has nourished Suramar for centuries. But on the other side of the harbor above what was once the temple of Elune, a fel storm is gathering, and Gul "dan himself has settled in the palace walls, so the troubles here have not ended, but only begun.
Developer comment
At first glance, this is a typical "demonic" raid: at the top of the main spire of the Citadel, Gul "dan is waiting in the wings, and the powerful rulers of the Legion, Tichondrius and Kros, are hiding behind its walls. But not everything is so simple. Once this citadel belonged to the greatest civilization on Azeroth.
It reflects the magic of the nightborne elves and their commitment to sophistication. In Suramar, designers and artists sought to convey the atmosphere of a vibrant and exciting yet occupied city. And the team that worked on the new dungeon perceived the Nighthold as getting into first of all as a magnificent Suramar palace, and only then - as a raid zone.
From the botanical garden and guest rooms to the observatory and halls that surround the nightborne's lifeblood, we've created a royal retreat majestic to the last detail. And then we asked ourselves: how would all this change with the advent of demons?
Many of our raid zones are gloomy and oppressive places, and this is dictated by necessity: it is unlikely that Xavius's possessions can be bright and picturesque. But the Nighthold is another matter. She is beautiful and deadly at the same time.
The Nighthold Mythic mode has been open in both regions for almost two days now, and the intense progression race is in full swing. Right now, several guilds are fighting for the title of the first in the world and they are doing well. At the moment, the best result is 7/10 killed mythic bosses, which 4 guilds have at once: Serenity (EU) holds the first place, Limit (US) is in the second, our Exorsus (EU) is in the third, and Method (4) is in the fourth EU); From Scratch (EU) with 6/10 boss progress is in fifth place. You can see the success of the following guilds on the plate below.
Among the Russian-speaking guilds, the first three places are held by Exorsus (7/10), Fusion (4/10) and Euphoria (3/10). In total, only 38 raid squads managed to defeat at least one mythic boss. Mythic bosses were not so simple.
This time there was some drama: for several hours now, the leaders of the race - Serenity cannot enter the raid. As it turns out, one of the third-party players somehow managed to get their save for the Mythic Nighthold and is now permanently in the raid, which prevents other players from entering there for more than a minute. To release the captured, apparently, he is not going to. According to rumors, this was done by a player recently expelled from Serenity and switched to Method (these two guilds, as we know, are in a rather difficult relationship with each other), but most likely these are rumors - there is no exact information yet. Although, just in case, they decided to exclude that player from Method until the end of the raid, in order to deal with all this later.
And the players of the Pieces guild encountered a small and completely uncritical, but still a bug: by coincidence, the boss Kros was killed in the very last moments, after which he immediately destroyed the bridge and put the entire raid. Raiders received loot, but the achievement was not credited to them - this moment can be seen on the battle recording (starting at ~6:18). They will probably receive the due reward later after contacting support.
As for the videos from the bosses, the participants of the race have already started uploading their videos, so we can fully appreciate how the most difficult battles look like at the moment. Here, for example, is a good selection from Limit:
The journey of the heroes of Azeroth through the shining Suramar was full of secrets and deadly dangers. The next step on this path will be tests in the Nighthold, in the heart of the city. Overview and schedule for the opening of quarters and raid modes.

Scorpion. Deep in the bowels of the Nighthold, under the thickness of sea waters, the forgotten halls leading to the Nightwell itself are hidden. One of these halls is inhabited by a monstrous armored scorpid. Scorpiron draws strength from the Well and, along with his hordes of spawn, presents a formidable obstacle on this seemingly tempting detour to the heart of the Nighthold.
chronomatic anomaly. The tunnel at the base of the Nightwell is a whirlpool of pure energy that forms when the earth gives up its power to feed an entire people. From this chaotic stream, a chronomatic anomaly arose - the embodiment of the power of the Eye of Aman "tula. Energy emissions from this anomaly distort the flow of time.
Trilliax, who once faithfully served noble nightborne, was thrown into a landfill and quietly lived out his life among other unnecessary golems. And although the unwavering desire to fulfill his duties still remains with him, time has not been kind to his matrix of consciousness. Now he randomly switches between modes of operation - from a careful caretaker to a maniacal disinfector - and hopes to earn the favor of his master, not realizing that he is long gone.
Night Citadel
Blademaster Aluriel I have always been a talented mage. Thanks to her skill in swordsmanship, she quickly rose to prominence in the ranks of the Night Watch. But the more power she gained, the more she wanted to achieve. She studied under the mages at the University of Suramar, spending her days practicing combat and her nights studying mechanology. She tempered her weapons and armor in the Nightwell by investing magic in precious metals. She is the first bladecaster and is equally devoted to the schools of fire, ice and arcane magic.
Cross. One of the mightiest warriors of the Legion, this massive doomlord was defeated on the Broken Shore by the combined efforts of the greatest heroes of the Horde and the Alliance. Recovering from his defeat, Kros took up position in the bay between the Nighthold and the Tomb of Sargeras and is ready to destroy all who dare to challenge the Legion.
Shal "dorai" terrace
High Botanist Tel "arn. From a young age, the nightborn Tel "arn had a keen interest in plants. He was very interested in how hardy and unpretentious weeds were, how ordinary grass uses the energy of the sun for its own benefit, how trees are divided in two, how two branches grow together into one. With the help of the energy of the Night Well, he changed himself so that now it is difficult to recognize a nightborne elf in him.
captain's yard
Tichondrius. The dreadlord Tichondrius, former leader of the Nathrezim, was defeated by the awakened power of Illidan Stormrage himself. Having recovered in the Twisting Nether, Tichondrius returned to keep an eye on Gul "dan and report on everything to the Legion lords so that the warlock would not let his patrons down again.
Stargazer Pavilion
Star Augur Etraeus. The nightborne stargazer Etraeus has spent many years studying the sky of Azeroth, wanting to unravel the great mysteries of the universe. He discovered hitherto unknown worlds and, with the help of the Nightwell, began to draw out the essence of these worlds in order to increase his own strength.
Night Spire
Grand Master Elisande. Elisande was once among the heroes who opposed the Legion. Together with her Highborne followers, she renounced Queen Azshara and her dark path, and then subjugated the power of the Eye of Aman "Thul and created the Nightwell to protect Suramar from the Sundering. However, ten thousand years later, after the invasion of the Legion, things took a different turn She made an alliance with the demons in hopes of using the Nightwell again, this time as payment to save her people.
Font of the Night
Hum "given. The chain of events that began with Garrosh's escape to Draenor, after a series of unexpected turns, led to the current situation. Having failed on Draenor, Gul'dan, along with the lords of the Legion, now stands on the threshold of absolute victory. At the top of the Nighthold, over which a whirlwind of fel energy swirls, an outcast warlock waits for his fate to come true.
The Nighthold is a new raid that contains 10 bosses. Moreover, the final boss will be Guldan himself - that nasty lopsided orc who is responsible for all the troubles of the Horde: both in the original timeline and in the alternative one!
We'll face Elisande and her team of nerds, stargazers, battle mages, and cybernetic cleaners. We will meet the good old Tichondrius, who returned from the Twisting Nether to complete the unfinished business. We will scatter the shell of the crystal scorpid around the area and absorb the power of the Nightwell!
Suramar will be ours.
Opening schedule
There is no exact timetable yet. But, like many raids before, the Nighthold raid will open gradually:
- First Normal and Heroic mode;
- Then a couple of weeks later, Epochal difficulty and the first wing of the LFR;
- And after the next wings in LFR with an interval of a couple of weeks.
There are no plans for a prequest for access to the raid.

The journey through Suramar has been fraught with intrigue and danger as the heroes of Azeroth have fought to help reclaim this shining city. It's time to take the next step and face the challenges within the Nighthold.
Minimum Level: 110
Location: Suramar
Bosses: 10
The largest structure in the Broken Isles and among the grandest in all of Azeroth, the Nighthold stands as a testament to the achievements of the nightborne civilization. Centered around the Nightwell, the fount of arcane power that has sustained Suramar for centuries, these grounds were built as a haven from the worries of the world. But as a felstorm churns above the former temple of Elune across the bay, and Gul'dan himself now resides within the palace's walls, those worries now begin-not end-here.
Developer Insights:Even though Gul'dan awaits atop the main spire of the Nighthold, and even though mighty Legion adversaries like Tichondrius and Krosus lurk within the walls of the compound, the Nighthold is not a traditional demonic raid. It stands as a testament to perhaps the greatest civilization Azeroth has ever seen: the pinnacle of elven magic and sophistication.
Just as our artists and designers approached the creation of the city of Suramar with the aim of evoking the feel and bustle of a living city under occupation, the dungeon team wanted to make sure the Nighthold really felt like the grand palace of Suramar. From botanical gardens to guest quarters, from an observatory to chambers enclosing the power source of nightborne civilization, we tried to build a grand royal court and then consider how the Legion’s presence would affect and transform that foundation. Many of our raid zones are dark and oppressive places, by necessity-the domain of Xavius cannot be bright and cheery-but the Nighthold offers a raid environment that is both beautiful and deadly.
Raid Schedule:
- Wednesday, January 18: Nighthold Normal and Heroic difficulties open.
- Wednesday, January 25: Nighthold Mythic difficulty and Raid Finder Wing 1 (Arcing Aqueducts) open.
- Wednesday, February 8: Nighthold Raid Finder Wing 2 (Royal Athenaeum) opens.
- Wednesday, February 22: Nighthold Raid Finder Wing 3 (Nightspire) opens.
- Wednesday, March 8: Nighthold Raid Finder Wing 4 (Betrayer's Rise) opens.
The Nightwell
Skorpyron: Deep within the foundations of the Nighthold, beneath the sea, lie long-forgotten vaults that give access to the Nightwell itself. This monstrous armored scorpid has made its home in one of these vaults. Infused with the power of the Nightwell and surrounded by a teeming brood, Skorpyron presents a serious complication to an otherwise promising back entry to the Nighthold.
Chronomatic Anomaly: As the power to fuel an entire civilization courses from the earth, the cavern at the base of the Nightwell has become a maelstrom of raw energy. Born from this chaotic flux, the Chronomatic Anomaly is an embodiment of the power of the Eye of Aman'thul. As it lashes out with energy attacks, the bursts of energy warp the very flow of time.
Trilliax: Trilliax, once proud servant to the nightborne aristocracy, has been discarded and left to slowly deteriorate. While an unwavering will to carry out its tasks remains, the passage of time has splintered this construct’s personality matrix. It now unpredictably switches from one mode to the next, ranging from doting caretaker to homicidal sterilizer, craving recognition and validation from a master that no longer exists.
The Nighthold
Spellblade Aluriel: Aluriel always had an affinity for magic. She rose through the ranks of the Nightguard effortlessly, having a natural talent with the sword. But no matter how strong she became, she wanted more. She studied with the mages at the University of Suramar, spending her days in combat training and her evenings in the artificery. She forged her weapons and armor in the Nightwell, weaving magic spells into the precious metals. She is the first Spellblade, adept in the schools of Fire, Frost, and Arcane.
Krosus: This colossal doom lord, one of the largest and mightiest creatures in the armies of the Legion, was defeated at the Broken Shore through the combined might of the greatest heroes of the Horde and the Alliance. Having recovered from his wounds, Krosus emerges from the bay between the Nighthold and the Tomb of Sargeras to crush anyone who would oppose the Legion.
Shal'dorei Terrace
High Botanist Tel'arn: From his youth, the nightborne Tel'arn was fascinated by plant life: the resilience and adaptability of weeds, the ability of simple grass to harness the power of the sun, the way a tree may be divided into two, or two branches grafted into one. Aided by the energies of the Nightwell, he has transformed himself to the point that he is scarcely recognizable as a nightborne elf. He now considers himself something far, far greater.
Captain's Quarters
Tichondrius: The dreadlord Tichondrius, once leader of the nathrezim, was slain by the newly awakened power of none other than Illidan Stormrage. Reconstituted in the Twisting Nether, Tichondrius returns to watch over Gul'dan on behalf of the Legion, ensuring that the orc warlock does not once again fail his masters.
Astromancer's Rise
Star Augur Etraeus: The nightborne astromancer Etraeus has devoted long years of research to scouring the skies of Azeroth, seeking answers to the great mysteries of the universe. His scrying has shown him worlds beyond our ken, and the power of the Nightwell allows him to draw upon the essence of those worlds to amplify his own powers.
The Nightspire
Grand Magistrix Elisande: Elisande once distinguished herself by resisting the Legion. She and her highborne followers broke away from Queen Azshara and the dark path she was taking, harnessing the power of the Eye of Aman'Thul to create the Nightwell, protecting Suramar from the Sundering. But over ten thousand years later, offered the Legion's arrival her no such recourse. She has cast her lot with the demons, hoping to once again use the power of the Nightwell-this time in a very different sense-to save her people.
The Font of Night
Gul'dan: The chain of events set in motion when Garrosh escaped to Draenor has continued, unbroken for all its twists and turns, leading to this very moment. Thwarted in Draenor, Gul'dan now stands on the precipice of ultimate achieving victory on behalf of his Legion masters. Standing atop the Nighthold, as the vortex of fel energy swirls in the skies overhead, the outcast orc warlock awaits his destiny.
